Arts & Crafts 7 & under: (ages 3+ with adult supervision) Cascade shows students how to create unique crafts, promoting fine motor skills and creativity. Students explore different mediums as they create their personalized crafts. Supplies are listed for each craft in the Archive.

About the teacher: Cascade is a creative and crafty homeschooling teen with a love for animals! She raises guinea pigs, goats, and rabbits for 4H.


Preschool: (ages 2-5) This is a 26 week class for our younger Hoeden Littles who are just starting out. Miss Jordan teaches letters, numbers, shapes and colors. During class, Miss Jordan reads a story, reads a poem, and shows students how to use Play-Doh to make shapes, letters, and numbers. Each week has its own theme and set of words to help build vocabulary.

Telling Time with Mrs. Mandy: (ages 5+) Mrs. Hunt teaches students to count by 5s and tell time on an analog clock. There is a printable clock for you to print out and your student to put together. Mrs. Hunt teaches the skills in small increments of difficulty and plays games with students to help them practice their newly learned skills. Printable game boards and a supply list are included.

Handwriting Nursery Rhymes: (ages 5+) In this 4 week class, Mrs. Kelly uses nursery rhymes to help students practice their handwriting skills. During class, she reads a nursery rhyme and shows how to complete the copywork worksheets. There is a printable with all the nursery rhymes and worksheets.

Kindergarten Science and Social Studies: (ages 5+) Miss Jordan teaches typical Kindergarten topics within these two subjects, alternating 5 weeks per subject. The first 5 weeks are Science: The 5 Senses. There will be a fun project for the topic each week for students to create along with Miss Jordan.

Playful Story Math: (grades K-3) This class uses the Arithmetic Village book series which introduces addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with short stories. There is a link provide in the class Archive to print the activity books for free (recommended) and a link to get the books (optional). During class, we will read the books, work through the activity books, create math crafts, and play math games together. Ms. Brooke has also provided separate videos of her reading each book. Suggested supplies for this class include a treasure box of some kind, 10 bags of 10 gems or other small items, Activity books 1-3, and materials from the supply list for the games and crafts.

About the teacher: Ms. Brooke is a stay-at-home mother and homeschools her 3 children (Sabrina, Eddie, and Beth). Ms. Brooke enjoys being outdoors, reading, Bible study, and painting. Sabrina is Ms. Brooke’s oldest and enjoys arts and crafts. Eddie is the 2nd oldest and loves Marvel, Harry Potter, and Lego. Beth is the littlest in the family with a big personality. She loves animals and creating games. Ms. Brooke and her children do the work with students in all of her classes.

Creative Writing: Collaborative Secret World of Talking Animals: (all ages) Mrs. Shelly helps students work through collaborative story writing using the chapter pictures from The Secret World of Talking Animals by The Thinking Tree as the building blocks to the Creative Writing process. Lessons are taught in a voluntary, free flow discussion setting. Students under the age of 8 will need help from a parent or older sibling. There are plenty of links for students to utilize to further their study. Mrs. Shelly models interpersonal discussion and self-guided collaborative study by all ages in this group class.

Elementary Writing Words to Sentences: (1st grade and up) Mrs. Amie teaches students the parts of speech, types of sentences, proper punctuation and capitalization, and how to write a complete sentence. This class is an interactive lecture styled presentation. Mrs. Amie teaches lessons with easy-to-follow slides on a projector and white board. She builds in reviews to keep things fresh in the minds of her students. There are class notes, an E-book, reference charts, and teacher-made worksheets available in the class Archive. Mrs. Amie also created an optional review/summer packet to be used at the end of this class.

About the teacher: Mrs. Amie was a nurse for several years in a variety of settings including a substitute nurse at her local school. This opened the door for her to substitute for teachers and she fell in love with teaching. She has been homeschooling her 2 sons, currently ages 12 and 8, since preschool and she is expecting her third baby in December 2019. She describes her teaching method as “an interactive lecture presentation” and utilizes a projector, white board, and Power Point to help students understand the process of writing.


Endangered Species Collaborative Study Class: (ages 10+) Mrs. Shelly helps students work through collaborative study and writing using The Endangered Species Science & Research Study Guide by The Thinking Tree. Chapters are used as the building block to the collaborative study process. Each animal studies will become the topic for a 5 Paragraph Essay. Lessons are taught in a voluntary, free-flow discussion setting as Mrs. Shelly shares her computer screen to search for answers about each endangered animal. There are plenty of links for students to utilize to further their study. She models interpersonal discussion and self-guided collaborative study by all ages in this group class.

SPELLING: Flash Classes with Miss Jayd: (varies by unit) In this class, Miss Jayd makes flashcards and reviews them with students. The review also shows students how to use them for studying on their own. These classes start with math facts and then move on to vocabulary and spelling.

Grammar Galaxy: (1st grade and up) Grammar Galaxy is a story based comprehensive language arts program which encompasses reading skill development, literary concepts, vocabulary, spelling, grammar, public speaking skills, and composition. Even though the curriculum is broad in scope, the lessons are short. Grammar Galaxy is a mastery approach with built-in review. The overall lessons and teaching method are kept the same. The first two books of the series, Nebula and Protostar, are taught in this class. This is a CIH class so you must have the curriculum to join the class. This class only goes through the first 2 books of the series.

Harry Potter Studies: (ages 8+) This class is a science and literature class based on the Harry Potter series Book 1-4. Students are expected to have read the scheduled chapters prior to class. Class includes reading comprehension questions, a project, and vocabulary study. The reading comprehension questions and project supplies are included in a printable packet. The projects vary from crafts to science experiments and each project is done step-by-step on screen.

High School Literature Book Study: (ages 14+) Mrs. Shelly reads and discusses The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton and Anne of Green Gables by Lucy Maud Montgomery AND MORE with voluntary student participation. Note-taking is taught by example. There are optional printable caboodle packets and question packets for the books. You may purchase or borrow the books or use the PDF copy provided in the classroom archives. Each lesson has vocabulary and unanswered questions for students to explore. Mrs. Shelly models note-taking, questioning, and self-guided study.

Hoeden Spelling with Mrs. Shelly: (ages 12+) Mrs. Shelly helps students improve their spelling and vocabulary. Each week, Mrs. Shelly reads a 20 word spelling list, 10 word vocabulary list, and a paragraph for dictation. Students write down how THEY think the words are spelled before Shelly shows them how it should be spelled. The dictation contains all of their spelling words for added practice. There is a caboodle for students to use as a guide for studying the vocabulary words after class. The only supplies for this class are pencil, paper, and a dictionary.

Middle School BFN English: (ages 12+) Everything You Need to Ace English Language Arts in One Big Fat Notebook: Classes include vocabulary, note-taking practice using note-cards, and ends by going through the short chapter quiz from the book. Book lists for fiction and nonfiction are given as suggestions only; use your discretion on appropriateness for your student.


Spectrum 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, and 6th Grade: (1st – 6th grade) Mrs. Shelly works with students to complete the Spectrum Focused Practice for Math and Language Arts Mastery workbook for each grade. Each lesson will consist of a few pages from each section of the book. Pages are assigned for homework occasionally. These workbooks are consumable and are necessary to taking the class.

Spanish Conversations: (all ages) Mrs. JM teaches Spanish on a conversational level. During each lesson, she presents a handful of words and then uses them in basic sentences. This approach opens the door to sentence structure without slowing down the growth of Spanish vocabulary. Mrs. JM uses a chalkboard and breaks words down into their individual sounds to help students learn both proper pronunciation and spelling. Students love seeing what unique pointer Mrs. JM has chosen for each lesson (Harry Potter wand, Mickey Mouse glove, whisk, etc)!

About the teacher: Mrs. JM is from Mexico and was raised in the United States. Spanish is a huge part of her family. Of her four children, 1 is in the Army, 1 is in college, 1 is a homeschooling 5th grader, and the youngest is 2 years old. Mrs. JM has an Associates in accounting. She is very outgoing and talkative which often brings laughter to her class. She loves being a homeschooling parent as well as a homeschooling teacher for all of her students.

Geography

Maps and Geography: (ages 7-13) Mrs. Shelly works with students to complete The Complete Book of Maps and Geography Grades 3-6 (blue book version). Students will complete a few pages per lesson with Mrs. Shelly.

States and Capitals: (ages 7+) Mrs. Hunt teaches about each of the United States in alphabetical order using The Thinking Tree United States Geography, History, and Social Studies Journal (optional) as a spine. She teaches students facts about each state with a conversational approach, discussing historic events, the state seal, wackiest laws, famous people, and so much more!

Magic Tree House Unit Studies: (ages 7+) This class studies one Magic Tree House book per month in series order. Ms. Tabitha reads a few chapters of the story book in a separate video each week which is uploaded to the archives before that week’s lesson. This allows students to either listen to the story or read it on their own before class. During class, Ms. Tabitha asks some reading comprehension questions, reads from and discusses the accompanying Magic Tree House Fact Tracker book, reviews vocabulary words, and leads students through a fun hands-on project.

Her oldest daughter graduated college with her Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and her youngest is currently homeschooling. US Presidents: (ages 7+) Mrs. Heck reads and discusses The New Big Book of US Presidents by Running Press and Kid Presidents: True Tales of Childhood from America’s Presidents by David Stabler. She teaches about the presidents in order using these two books. There are notebooking and note-taking printables provided.

About the teacher: Dr. (Mrs.) Heck is a mother of 7 children and grandmother of 2. She has homeschooled for over 20 years and has four who have graduated with two still in high school. Of her four graduates, one is a business owner, one is enlisted with the United States Navy, one is completing his Associates degree in engineering, and one is a recent graduate and will be attending a culinary arts program. Dr. Heck has had many different jobs over the years including a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, a train driver/materials handling operator, instructor, cook/chef, and a mystery shopper. Cooking and Baking: (all ages with adult supervision) Mrs. Sandra shows students how to chop, slice, dice, beat, whip, and assemble yummy main dishes and desserts. By the end of the class, students will be able to make a meal that will have their whole family saying, “more please!” There is a list of meals, supplies, and ingredients posted for each unit. We highly recommend parent supervision especially when a recipe calls for sharp kitchen utensils or the use of a stove/oven.

Adulting Like a Boss: Helps students prepare for living on their own once they reach adulthood. During class, students will watch a pre-recorded video of the task and talk about the finer points followed by an open discussion for students to ask questions or share their own experience.

Artist Studies: (all ages) This class studies Picasso, Kahlo, Monet, O’Keeffe, Van Gogh, Salvador Dali, Rembrandt, Mary Cassatt, Renoir, Jackson Pollock, and Michelangelo. The two series used the most are the Who Was… and Getting to Know the World’s Greatest Artists. When those are not available for the artist, other books are used. High school students will find it easy to dig deeper to bring these simpler books to their level. Classes include reading a few chapters from each book to students, vocabulary words, timeline building, and discussion about popular works and styles of the artist. This class is loosely modeled on the Charlotte Mason study style.



Arts & Crafts 7 & under: (ages 3+ with adult supervision) Cascade shows students how to create unique crafts, promoting fine motor skills and creativity. Students explore different mediums as they create their personalized crafts. Supplies are listed for each craft in the Archive.

Becoming a Master Builder: Lego Construction: (elementary) A fun 12-week course of Lego building. The class starts with a simple truck and works its way up to a functional candy dispenser. Some weeks will be a guided build while others will be a 15-minute free build session with a theme. Students will need a good variety of Lego or similar building bricks including a set of wheels, a door, windows, and a baseplate.

Mini Weapons: (mature ages 14+ with adult supervision) Mad Miss Kay shows students how to make weapons from Mini Weapons of Mass Destruction by John Austin. The weapons are all made from common office supplies and can be quite dangerous, for this reason this class has a MATURE 14+ age recommendation. Mad Miss Kay also provides students with research topics and interesting online articles in case they want to learn more about weapons and history.

Music Around the World: (all ages) This class takes students on an imaginary journey around world, visiting each continent to learn some fun facts, local music and instruments, and cultural dances of the area. There are printable files which include passports, passport stamps, information, and notebooking pages for each country we visit. Mrs. Hamilton uses a variety of teaching tools such as PowerPoint presentations, YouTube playlists, worksheets, and lectures. Links are provided for extending study beyond the class. The links for this course are primarily YouTube videos.

She grew up in a teaching family, learning what it means to be a teacher from them. Over the years her teaching style has changed, as she has grown and learned how to use different learning styles. Oil Pastels: (all ages) This class is an introduction to oil pastel art. Students will create an oil pastel painting while they listen to verbal instructions and model the technique in small steps. Each lesson is built upon developing certain skills so it is highly recommended to start with the first lesson. The suggested supplies for this class are Craypas Junior artist oil pastel set of 50, Canson pastel paper gray tones, paper towels, scratching tools such as a toothpick or pen cap, and white acrylic paint (optional since only a tiny amount is used). These brands are suggested as the best quality for the least cost.

Middle School BFN Math: (ages 12+) Mrs. Heck reads and discusses Everything You Need to Ace Math in One Big Fat Notebook. Mrs. Heck uses a white board to help explain the concepts from the book. Since this book is meant as a guide and lacks detail, Mrs. Heck adds information to the text for a better understanding of the topics. She also provides worksheets to print and work through when possible. Her goal is a conceptual understanding of math and an optimistic outlook on math.

Mrs. Jacquie is a former Army Medic and is currently studying to be a Certified Professional Midwife. While working as a Medic in the Army she has worked in many different areas of the medical field. She worked Labor and Delivery, OB/GYN, Family Medicine, ER, medical transportation, and was a medic that supported all training schools located on Fort Benning. She has been field tested both stateside and abroad. Mrs. Jacquie is an advocate for hands on learning and tapping into her children’s natural curiosity to help them gain a deeper understanding. Mrs. Jacquie facilitates education through reading, hands on activities, and leading discussions to help her students gain a better understanding.


Endangered Species Collaborative Study Class: (ages 10+) Mrs. Shelly helps students work through collaborative study and writing using The Endangered Species Science & Research Study Guide by The Thinking Tree. Chapters are used as the building block to the collaborative study process. Each animal studies will become the topic for a 5 Paragraph Essay. Lessons are taught in a voluntary, free-flow discussion setting as Mrs. Shelly shares her computer screen to search for answers about each endangered animal. There are plenty of links for students to utilize to further their study. She models interpersonal discussion and self-guided collaborative study by all ages in this group class.

Harry Potter Studies: (ages 8+) This class is a science and literature class based on the Harry Potter series books 1 – 4. Students are expected to have read the scheduled chapters prior to class. The reading comprehension questions and project supplies are included in a printable packet. The projects vary from crafts to science experiments and each project is done step-by-step on screen.

Middle School BFN Science: (ages 12+) Mrs. Shelly reads and discusses Everything You Need to Ace Science in One Big Fat Notebook. There is a caboodle and plenty of links for students to utilize to further their study. She models note-taking, questioning, and self-guided study.

Nature Studies: (all ages) Students are encouraged to explore their own backyards. The second half of class is the nature journal portion. Exploring Nature with Children by Lynn Seddon book is not required to participate in this class. Suggested supplies are listed in the class with the most important being a sketchbook and colored pencils.

Science Experiments: (all ages with parent supervision) Hands-on Class Students will learn about matter, physics, chemistry, and more by doing experiments from items mostly found at home. There is also a Science Fair Project unit to help students understand the ins and outs of creating one themselves. Lessons are presented in a fun and informative discussion-styled format, explained in a clear and concise manner to cater to a wide age range. Projects are made in class and links are posted for students to research after class if they want more information.


Spectrum Science 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, and 6th Grade: (3rd-6th Grade) This class uses the Spectrum Science books for each grade. Mrs. Shelly reads and discusses the lessons and helps students work through some of the pages as they discuss the lesson in a voluntary, free flow discussion setting. There are plenty of links for students to utilize to further their study. She models note-taking, questioning, and self-guided study.

Weather Forecasting: (ages 7+) Ms. Tabitha talks with students about different aspects of weather and weather forecasting. She uses The Kids’ Book of Weather Forecasting (a Williamson Kids Can! book). Students will be building their own weather equipment out of household items during class. By the end of this class, students will have their own mini weather station and will know ways to predict weather in their area!

About the teacher: Ms. Tabitha is a mother of 2 girls and has been homeschooling for 5 years. Her oldest daughter graduated college with her Bachelor Degree in Fine Arts and her youngest is currently homeschooling. Ms. Tabitha believes that children learn best when they are interested and engaged in a topic and facilitates education by including hands-on activities in her lessons whenever possible.


Zoology: (ages 9+) This class uses Zoology for Kids: Understanding and Working with Animals by Josh Hestermann (there is a promo code in this class’ Archive). In class, Ms. Brooke reads a portion of each chapter and does a project with students.. Materials are posted in the class syllabus which can be found in the class Archive.

About the teacher: Ms. Brooke is a stay-at-home mother and homeschools her 3 children (Sabrina, Eddie, and Beth). Ms. Brooke enjoys being outdoors, reading, Bible study, and painting. Sabrina is Ms. Brooke’s oldest and enjoys arts and crafts. Eddie is the 2nd oldest and loves Marvel, Harry Potter, and Lego. Beth is the littlest in the family with a big personality. She loves animals and creating games. Ms. Brooke and her children do the work with students in all of her classes.
