Course Descriptions

Geography

Maps and Geography: (ages 7-13) Mrs. Shelly works with students to complete The Complete Book of Maps and Geography Grades 3-6 (blue book version). Students will complete a few pages per lesson with Mrs. Shelly.

About the teacher: Mrs. Shelly is a bio-adopt mother to 6 children and grandmother to three. She has homeschooled for over 20 years, has 4 homeschool graduates and two at home. Two of her children graduated with an Associate Degree at the age of 17/18 respectively, another is certified in welding, and yet another is still in college. Mrs. Mabe is an avid advocate for Blue Collar Education and โ€œCollege at 14โ€ for homeschooling families. Mrs. Mabe facilitates education by reading and DOING the work with the students.


States and Capitals: (ages 7+) Mrs. Hunt teaches about each of the United States in alphabetical order using The Thinking Tree United States Geography, History, and Social Studies Journal (optional) as a spine. She teaches students facts about each state with a conversational approach, discussing historic events, the state seal, wackiest laws, famous people, and so much more!


Mrs. Shelly’s US and World Geography: Interesting Places: (ages 7+) Mrs. Shelly reads and discusses several books from the WhoHQ series: Where is/are … Area 51, Bermuda Triangle, Alcatraz, Mount Rushmore, Grand Canyon, Mississippi River, Niagara Falls, Empire State Building, White House, Great Barrier Reef, Stonehenge, Great Wall, Machu Picchu, Easter Island, Disney World, The Amazon, The Great Pyramids, Statue of Liberty, The Serengeti, Ellis Island, The Kremlin, The Vatican, Broadway, Antarctica, Mount Everest, Parthenon, and Taj Mahal. There is a printable caboodle. She models note-taking, questioning, and self-guided study.
