Math

Flash Classes with Miss Jayd: (ages varies by unit) In this class, Miss Jayd makes flashcards and reviews them with students. The review also shows students how to use them for studying on their own. These classes start with math facts and then move on to vocabulary and spelling.

About the teacher: Miss Jordan (aka Miss Jayd) is a homeschooling teen who LOVES to go live and use her artistic abilities! She is an amazingly eclectic, hands-on learner. She plays the guitar, is teaching herself piano, and dabbles in ukulele! She likes to up-cycle everyday things and create, create, CREATE!

About the teacher: Ms. Rebekah is a homeschooling mother of 3 boys under the age of 7. Her sons are usually a part of class which means sometimes unexpected things happen in the middle of class, but Ms. Rebekah is graceful in redirecting focus back to the lesson. Her #1 goal in teaching is to be fun and joyful, bringing lots of laughter to her classes.


Learn Math Fast: (take LMF placement test) Mrs. Ramsay brings her enthusiasm and optimism to teach students math using the Learn Math Fast series. Mrs. Ramsay begins every class with a pep-talk, reminding students that they CAN learn math and they CAN be great at it. She uses a white board to work problems laid out in the book. Mrs. Ramsay teaches Volumes 1 – 4 and Mrs. Heck teaches Volumes 5, 6, and 7. Mrs. Heck reads the chapter, adds a little extra information to help all styles of learning, and uses a white board to show example problems. Ms. Laura teaches the last few chapters of Volumes 5 and 7. Worksheets at the end of each lesson are assigned as homework for students to apply what they learned in class on their own. About the teachers: Mrs. Ramsay is a homeschooling mother of 2, Homeschooling and Oils Consultant, vlogger, Learning Differences Advocate, Author, & Female Wellness Advocate. She has experience working with the public schooling system as a Behavioral Technician and a tutor. She has had training in early childhood development and has worked with children with multiple learning differences and learning styles. She prefers to do the work with students while modeling optimism and enthusiasm to foster positive thinking when it comes to concepts that are not always the most fun.

Dr. (Mrs.) Heck is a mother of 7 children and grandmother of 2. She has homeschooled for over 20 years and has four who have graduated with two still in high school. Of her four graduates, one is a business owner, one is enlisted with the United States Navy, one is completing his Associates degree in engineering, and one is a recent graduate and will be attending a culinary arts program. Dr. Heck has had many different jobs over the years including a US Navy Hospital Corpsman, a train driver/materials handling operator, instructor, cook/chef, and a mystery shopper. She obtained her doctorate degree in education curriculum delivery and design in 2008 and has created numerous online learning modules for corporations as well as for the US Coast Guard. Dr. Heck believes students should guide the curriculum and the learning process rather than the student conforming to the curriculum. Dr. Heck also believes that the information and curriculum should be delivered to the students through various methods, such as visual, auditory, etc. Most of all Dr. Heck believes learning should be fun otherwise the information will never be retained.

Ms. Laura is a homeschooling mother of 5. She has homeschooled for 11 years. She is an avid nature lover and enjoys spending her days outside. She also is a huge Whovian and Potter Head. Ms. Laura works alongside the students in classes. She does the projects and reading right along with them. She also tries to convey the message that learning is individual and the students have the freedoms to complete each project how they see fit.


Life of Fred Elementary: (elementary) Life of Fred is written from a Christian perspective. Life of Fred is mainly a math curriculum but includes other topics throughout. It is written as one big story so it is recommended for students to begin with the first book (Apples). During class, we read one chapter and do the Your Turn portion together. Ms. Brooke takes a break for part of this series and Mr. Avi picks up her class until she returns. The lessons and teaching method are kept the same between both teachers. This class will cover Apples through Jelly Beans. This is a CIH class so you must own the curriculum to participate in the class.

About the teachers: Ms. Brooke is a stay-at-home mother and homeschools her 3 children (Sabrina, Eddie, and Beth). Ms. Brooke enjoys being outdoors, reading, Bible study, and painting. Sabrina is Ms. Brooke’s oldest and enjoys arts and crafts. Eddie is the 2nd oldest and loves Marvel, Harry Potter, and Lego. Beth is the littlest in the family with a big personality. She loves animals and creating games. Ms. Brooke and her children do the work with students in all of her classes.

Mr. Avi is a quality engineer who thinks statistics are fun and enjoys math. He enjoys playing with his kids, playing video games, hiking, sailing, and being a D&D dungeon master.


Life of Fred Intermediate: (completed previous books) Life of Fred is written from a Christian perspective. Life of Fred is mainly a math curriculum but includes other topics throughout. It is written as one big story so it is recommended for students to begin with the first book (Apples). During class, we read one chapter and do the Your Turn portion together. Ms. Brooke takes a break for part of this series and Mr. Avi picks up her class until she returns. The lessons and teaching method are kept the same between both teachers. This class will cover Kidneys through Mineshaft. This is a CIH class so you must own the curriculum to participate in the class.

This class will cover Fractions, Zillions of Practice Problems Fractions, Decimals and Percents, and Zillions of Practice Problems Decimals and Percents. We will have 2 videos per lesson which will be hosted live on the same day, within the same hour. In the first video, we will read and work through the main story book. In the second video, we will work through the correlating portions of the Zillions of Practice Problems book. Bridges sections are for students to do on their own. Near the end of Fractions, Ms. Brooke takes a break and Mr. Avi teaches the rest of the class. The lessons and teaching method are kept the same between both teachers. This is a CIH class so you must own the curriculum to participate in the class.

Math From the Ground Up: (all ages) Starting with Level A (preschool) and moving up each level of math, Ms. Rebekah teaches students core math skills with manipulatives and engaging activities. Some lessons have an accompanying Parent Support video for caregivers to watch. These videos will discuss additional ideas, activities, and supplements to help you support your student between lessons. This class does not follow Common Core. A Caboodle with worksheets and a supply list are included in the archive. The supplies are mostly household items.

Middle School BFN Math: (ages 12+) Mrs. Heck reads and discusses Everything You Need to Ace Math in One Big Fat Notebook. Mrs. Heck uses a white board to help explain the concepts from the book. Since this book is meant as a guide and lacks detail, Mrs. Heck adds information to the text for a better understanding of the topics. She also provides worksheets to print and work through when possible. Her goal is a conceptual understanding of math and an optimistic outlook on math.

Playful Story Math: (grades K-3) This class uses the Arithmetic Village book series which introduces addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division with short stories. There is a link provide in the class Archive to print the activity books for free (recommended) and a link to get the books (optional). During class, we will read the books, work through the activity books, create math crafts, and play math games together. Ms. Brooke has also provided separate videos of her reading each book. Suggested supplies for this class include a treasure box of some kind, 10 bags of 10 gems or other small items, Activity books 1-3, and materials from the supply list for the games and crafts.

Real Life Math Skills: (Grades 6-12) Mrs. Shelly works with students to complete Life Skills workbooks by Remedia Publications Checkbook, Credit Card, Bank Account, Bargain, and Budget. These workbooks are consumable and are necessary for taking the class.

About the teacher: Mrs. Shelly is a bio-adopt mother to 6 children and grandmother to two. She has homeschooled for over 20 years, has 4 homeschool graduates and two at home. Two of her children graduated with an Associate Degree at the age of 17/18 respectively, another is certified in welding, and yet another is still in college. Mrs. Mabe is an avid advocate for Blue Collar Education and “College at 14” for homeschooling families. Mrs. Mabe facilitates education by reading and DOING the work with the students.


Spectrum 1st Grade, 2nd Grade, 3rd Grade, 4th Grade, 5th Grade, and 6th Grade: (1st – 6th grade) Mrs. Shelly works with students to complete the Spectrum Focused Practice for Math and Language Arts Mastery workbook for each grade. Each lesson will consist of a few pages from each section of the book. Pages are assigned for homework occasionally. These workbooks are consumable and are necessary to taking the class.

Telling Time with Mrs. Mandy: (ages 5+) Mrs. Hunt teaches students to count by 5s and tell time on an analog clock. There is a printable clock for you to print out and your student to put together. Mrs. Hunt teaches the skills in small increments of difficulty and plays games with students to help them practice their newly learned skills. Printable game boards and a supply list are included.

About the teacher: Mrs. Hunt is a Hoeden Ambassador, homeschool reviewer/coach, and business owner. She has been homeschooling her 3 boys for over 6 years and, even though it an be tough, they enjoy it! Mrs. Hunt is a silly, fun, and laid-back teacher. She likes to find funny things to tell her students and does her best to make learning an enjoyable and memorable experience.
